So I decided that wanted to use some non-traditional types of wood for my own design guitars. I like the idea of using something locally sourced, something Italian but also something beautiful. Enter Olive wood!...
This video is the making of my olive wood neck and fretboard for the first of my single cut guitar designs. I selected olive wood for the reasons above but there are also a few things that make it great for a guitar neck and fretboard. Olive wood is hard! which means that its perfect for a stiff neck. It also has a closed gain which means that when the fretboard is sanded and polished to 3000 grit, the wood shines and feels wonderful as a playing surface.
Its a great feeling when you do something new and love the results so if you'd like to see the olive wood neck build then please join me on YouTube and let me know your thoughts!
